What You Will Learn

Few people want their kitchen to be like everyone else’s kitchen. Consumers like to think their kitchen is unique. This uniqueness can be achieved by customizing specific elements inside the kitchen. In this webinar we first explore the new meaning of the term “custom”, the main differences between stock and custom cabinetry, and how this impacts the designer’s role and design software choice. We then focus our attention on current specific areas of customization in kitchen and bathroom design, paying particular attention to the trade-offs between the design and the amount of time it takes to create it. In the last section of the webinar we cover the use of software (Autokitchen) to incorporate customer feedback through the design.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand the meaning and importance of customization in kitchen and bath design.
  • Gain familiarity with the trade-off between the time required for a specific design and the level of detail achieved.
  • Cover specific areas of focus when designing a custom kitchen or bathroom.
  • Illustrate different ways to use software to incorporate customer feedback.

What You Will Learn

As kitchen & bath designers and interior designers well know, the paperwork involved with creating proposals for clients can be time consuming. During this session, join Scott Trainor, as he discusses the different methods designers use to create their proposals, how they impact your client’s overall experience and decision making, and how streamlining the process leads to a faster turnaround.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand how creating detailed and comprehensive proposals is multifaceted and highly dependent on the specific needs and goals of the user. In general, the kitchen and bath industry has struggled with in-house solutions to perform certain tasks and is not able to automate specific processes.
  • One of the primary objectives of using an industry-based proposal software like Clerestory in a professional setting is to increase productivity and efficiency by streamlining workflows and reducing the time and effort required to complete complex tasks. For instance, a proposal tool such as Clerestory can help kitchen and bath showrooms manage their operations more effectively by simplifying routine tasks and improving communication and collaboration among team members and clients.
  • Understand why, in addition to improving efficiency, a well-designed proposal can help designers achieve greater accuracy and precision in their work while saving time and increasing profits.
  • Learn why accuracy in proposals is essential for both time-saving and money-making purposes. When proposals are accurately crafted, they provide a clear understanding of the scope of the project, the requirements, and the deliverables, which helps to avoid misunderstandings and costly mistakes.
Featured Presenter
Scott Trainor

Scott Trainor has been a kitchen & bath designer for 10 years and has spent a majority of that time handling pricing and estimates for his client’s projects. Kitchens and bathrooms have a lot of moving parts, and it was too easy to forget so many pieces, like a hand shower elbow or toilet supply line. After attempting every method of proposal creation under the sun, he created Clerestory as a tool for other kitchen & bath designers to make the process foolproof.

Strong Relationships Create Strong Sales

What You Will Learn

Most industry professionals have degrees or completed training to become designers and business owners in the K&B space. However, as much as we can be the very best designers, we’re not much if we don’t have sales skills, relationship building skills, and a strong support system and/or work culture.

“Selling” has taken on a negative connotation lately. No one wants to be “sold”, but clients do want to be heard, assisted with their project, and cared for throughout the design and execution process. From the first discovery call, we’re selling – we sell ourselves, our firm, our expertise and experience, our co-workers, our products and services. It is a skill, and it is absolutely integral for success in our industry.

We are in the people business and in this session, Amy Hart will define a sale as a successful customer relationship. No one wants to patronize a business before they get to know them, their process, their history and get a feeling for how they value their clientele. With all the choices consumers have now, why should they work with you?

Amy Hart will lead you through these important elements of successful client relationships which, in turn, will lead to more sales: The Importance of Strong Team Culture, Prospecting, The First Sale (aka The First Meeting), Client Retention (with a focus on trade accounts), Building and Nurturing Client Relationships, and The Metrics of Relationships.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand how to build a strong team culture and how it will positively impact your business.
  • Learn how to boost and garner client retention with key tips that leave lasting impressions on clientele.
  • Determine best practices for building, nurturing, and tracking client relationships.

Amy is honored to have been named one of America’s 50 most Innovative Kitchen & Bath Professionals of 2019, and has been featured in various national Kitchen & Bath industry magazines. After graduating with a B.S. in Interior Design and a wealth of practical experience, she went on to work in commercial architecture, product management, operations management, and then found her way into the Kitchen and Bath specialty where she has thrived since 2002.

She serves as Vice President of the Blue Ridge Mountains Rotary Club, is a member of the Blue Ridge Home Builders Association, the Augusta County HBA and the Virginia Council of CEOs. She serves on the Board of Directors for Breaking The Chains Foundation, where she is also Director of the Big C New Me program for cancer survivors. Amy has also been honored with a position on the Wellborn Cabinet Designer Advisory Council and was a judge for the Kitchen & Bath Design News 2020 national Design Contest. In her limited spare time, Amy is also an award-winning filmmaker, actress and singer.

When designing for interiors, Amy believes one must “listen” to the structure and strive for a meaningful design that feels right in the space and suits her clients’ personal styles. She doesn’t heed many design “rules” but does believe that a room needs a hero and other characteristics shouldn’t compete for attention. Sometimes the most difficult part of design is to practice restraint. Amy is dedicated to a work culture where everyone can thrive and be fulfilled.

Building strong client relationships is embedded within their core values of integrity, creativity, communication, growth, and service. Her team is on board with her passion that any goal worth achieving should be written down and given metrics that are tracked weekly. This is why Dovetail is achieving their best sales year to date, and the growth trend continues upward. She lives in historic Scottsville with husband Eric and two big fluffy dogs Starr and Wynn. She and Eric have worked together for 18 years.

The Scalable Kitchen and Bath Professional: Successfully and Profitably Navigating Business Growth

When:

December 20, 2023

Presenter:

Fred Reikowsky, Principal, Legacy Business Leaders

CEUs: .1
What You Will Learn

Growth is a natural and desired goal for most kitchen and bath companies, but the unique and frustrating challenges that go with it are not. Every leader desiring to see his or her company take on more sales and earn more profit over time, must learn how to successfully navigate the no-man’s land of $1 – $3m and beyond, acquiring the tools and leadership skills to protect profit and cascade leadership responsibilities throughout the organization.

Business growth is often misunderstood as more: more sales, more revenue, and more profit. While all these metrics can be good things when on the increase, they are really only outcomes of growth.  For a business to grow, it must mature in its ability to solve complex problems and overcome adversity. That means the leader or leaders must first aspire to and prioritize personal growth and the development of capable people around them, then cascade leadership disciplines throughout the organization.

This session will deliver the tools to equip leaders and their organizations to take the steps needed to achieve those outcomes.  While many aspire to “more” as a mark of success, they seldom find it sustainable over time. Real, long-term success stories are all built on an inner developed strength and steadfast resolve that comes from disciplined leadership and proactive problem solving.

Learning Objectives: Adopting a growth mindset first: principles for orchestrating a quantum shift toward productivity in the culture of an organization / Strategic Leadership: establishing a common bond of shared, measurable goals and expectations for excellence / Value Channels: gaining tangible momentum through value stream mapping and streamlining business operations

What You Will Learn

Everyone has been using Universal Google Analytics since 2005 and for most, it faded away in July 2023.   The new Google Analytics 4 became the way of analyzing data reimagined.  Google Analytics 4 blows away the past in understanding how to analyze your marketing data and now everyone is adjusting at the same time.  Those who sooner understand the changes will have a competitive advantage to see what is working and what is not working with their marketing.  Don’t just let technical folk guide you.  Instead, focus on what matters for our industry, otherwise you will be lost in a world of Analysis Paralysis. During this session, join Brian Javeline, as he outlines how to utilize Google Analytics for your business.

Learning Objectives:

  • Learn how to easily understand the data comparisons of the past so you can embrace the future.
  • Understand how the metrics are now being accumulated to adjust your strategic approach.
  • Understand how to separate brand (organic-free) marketing versus paid advertising.
